Are You Stuffing Down Your Emotions?
“Don’t wear your heart on your sleeve”, “Don’t show weakness”, “Boys don’t cry”. We have been conditioned from a very early age to suppress all negative emotions. Even if we’re sad or depressed; when someone asks us how we are; we automatically say: “I’m ok.” That’s a conditioned response. Are you stuffing down your emotions?
We label emotions of sadness, fear, anger, guilt and blame as negative emotions and emotions of joy, excitement, gratitude, peace and love as positive emotions. We have been led to believe that a happy, successful life is devoid of any negative emotions. The human condition is such that we are here to learn and grow. If you reflect back on your life you will see that while you enjoyed the good times; it was from the challenging times that we learned our greatest lessons.
Our negative emotions are actually an indicator that we are off track from our chosen destiny. It’s there to show us that we’re playing small or hiding in our comfort zone. According to world-renowned teacher Dr Joe Dispenza; we can either learn through pain and suffering OR we can learn through joy and inspiration. We are all here to learn and grow – that part is not negotiable. How we learn and grow is our choice.
The human race is experiencing an awakening right now. For too long, we’ve been living unconscious lives, where we believe that life is happening to us. We live our lives from the outside in. Circumstances occur or people treat us badly and we react to that. When we react to everything the world throws at us, we give our power away. The outside has to change for us to be happy on the inside.
More and more people are starting to look at their lives and their struggle and are realizing that there MUST be a better way to live, love and be. If you have dreams and big goals for your life and future and realize that your current way of doing life is not going to get you there; you start looking for a better way. Then you start listening to some of the great teachers; get a life coach or a guru to help you understand where you are limiting yourself. You start learning the tools to make internal shifts to change your outer reality.
This is when you go within to find the programming that is not supporting your dreams but keeping it away from you. You are brave enough to decode and recode your inner thoughts and beliefs to align with your goals for yourself. Then you look at the emotions that may be stuck because you didn’t have the tools to deal with them in the moment. Because we were taught to stuff down negative emotions, the energy of that emotion needs to be stored somewhere in the body.
Today we are looking at unprecedented levels of cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Ponder for a moment if this could be the result of stuck emotions. After all, how were you taught to deal with resentment, shame, guilt or deep seated anger? We are not just physical bodies; we also have mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. Like I said before, we are here to learn and grow. So a lesson will appear first on the spiritual level, which is the subtlest of the four levels; but because we lead such busy, noisy lives, we don’t pay attention. So then it will drop into the mental level. The mind becomes more distracted or even obsessed with certain thoughts. If we still don’t pay attention, the lesson will drop down into the emotional level and we start feeling the negative emotions. Once again, if we don’t pay attention, it must manifest in the physical body, which is the densest of the four levels. Now you have to pay attention.
At this point, if you’re still living unconsciously, you hand all your power away to the doctor, hoping that he/she can fix you. What if that emotion had a message for you. Reflect on that for a moment. Could it be possible that the stuck emotion / energy in the body, was the cause of the physical ailment? I’m not asking anyone to fire their doctors or even accept what I am proposing. I’m simply asking you to consider that the answer could lie within you.
There are literally thousands of testimonials from people who have done the inner work and healed themselves as a result of it. Maybe we can start working with our doctors and start participating in our own healing journey as well. The inner journey is not always an easy one; especially in the beginning when we uncover these stuck emotions. But on the other side of this healing, lies your greatest freedom.
